OUR HISTORY

Curamericas Global, Inc., formerly Andean Rural Health Care, was founded in 1983 by Duke University and Johns Hopkins graduate Henry Perry III, M.D., Ph.D., M.P.H and Alice Weldon, Ph.D. Curamericas Global was created with the goal of establishing primary health care programs that are responsive to the health needs of the community, improving child survival within the community, and building the national and local capacity of health service providers.

Curamericas Global, Inc. works with four guiding principles:

Our programs are community-based, and promote community empowerment
Health benefits are eventually sustainable locally.



	Curamericas Global begins by seeking like-minded organizations within the country where a need has been established. Community health workers are recruited and trained to make home visits and teach families successful health care practices. Using Curamericas Global's own unique CBIO (Census-Based Impact-Oriented) methodology, information is gathered and results are measured to further improve health care services and cost-effectiveness. As the project progresses, volunteers from the U.S. and abroad donate their time and skills depending on the needs of a particular project area. Curamericas Global is always looking for people who are willing to help achieve the goal of strengthening communities and health care systems of developing countries. With the long-term objective of sustainability at heart, Curamericas Global has successfully completed projects in Rio Bravo, Mexico and Petionville, Haiti. As a result of the widespread progress and sustainability of the Bolivian program and these other projects, Curamericas Global continues to look for more opportunities in areas with critical health care needs.
